Want to Know some Facts about T2 Diabetes?...

So What is Type 2 Diabetes?

I Know, I Know! - It's what fat people get, well... When they're fat!...

Er.... Yes and No! Well Not Exactly!

Come on then Brainbox .... What is it?

T2D happens when your blood glucose, (aka blood sugar), is too high. Blood Glucose is your main source of energy and comes mainly from the food you eat. The main hormone here is named Insulin, this is made by the Pancreas Gland, this helps glucose get into your cells which is used for energy.

When you have T2D, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or doesn’t use insulin well enough. Therefore, too much glucose stays in your blood, with not enough reaching your cells. This is what causes the symptoms of T2D.

Basically, elevated levels of fat in the pancreas and the liver can stop them working properly.

There are three types of diabetes. Type 1, Type 2 & Gestational diabetes. All of these types are quite different. In this website, I shall be concentrating on Type 2 only, which is what I have and is the most common type.

Not everybody with T2D are visibly overweight. Around 10% of people with this disease are not fat or obese. It seems that these people have a greater amount of internal fat. Especially around their internal organs.
